Dunnellon is a small community about 20 miles southwest of Ocala, Florida. Resting right between Lake Rousseau, the Rainbow River, and the Withlacoochee River Dunnellon is the perfect place for a relaxing, quiet and peaceful vacation. These neighboring bodies of water provide the perfect place to go kayaking, canoeing and some of the best bass fishing in the state. About two miles north of Dunnellon is the Rainbow Springs State Park where you will find Florida’s 4th largest spring. Archaeologists believe this spring has been in use by people for almost 10,000 years. The park offers picnic areas, canoes, kayaks, and even tubing (though not in the headsprings area). The KP hole is another popular site for the aforementioned activities. Traveling west along county road 40 or by the Withlacooche River will bring you to the Gulf of Mexico and Yankeetown where you can explore the Gulf and even swim with manatees. Historic downtown Dunnellon has a wide variety of shops and dining facilities. Other activities in the area include golfing, hiking and bicycling. Ocala is home to the nearest airport, Ocala International Jim Taylor Field (OCF, 20miles). Larger airports in the area are the Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV, 43miles) and Tampa International Airport (TPA, 75miles). |
