North of Tampa and by the Gulf coast you will find Homosassa and Homosassa Springs just short of Crystal River along highway 19. This ecotourism paradise is loaded with spring fed rivers, beautiful clear lakes, and warm coastal waters. As you would expect the area is teeming with wildlife of every kind just waiting to be found. Nearby Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park is a great place to start your exploration. Here you can watch manatees, fresh water and salt water fish from an under water observatory, go for a bird watching expedition along the new nature trail, or study Florida’s ecosystem. Once you are done here you may want to rent a canoe or kayak and float along the beautiful rivers in the area. Scuba diving and snorkeling guides will get you up close to the many manatees. The Homosassa and Homosassa Springs area are also perfect places for a fishing trip. Guided fishing and rental equipment can be found in the area. There are also many area golf courses to enjoy. Other popular area activities include hunting, horseback riding, and hiking. The warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico are just to the West and waiting for you to play along the shoreline. Disney World and Orlando are surprisingly nearby, only a 75 mile drive from Homosassa. The Tampa International Airport (TPA, 60miles) provides the best place to fly into near Homosassa and Homosassa Springs. |
