Inverness, Florida is a small community about 60 miles north of Tampa and east of Homosassa Springs. The area is very close to nature. Natural springs, rivers and lakes surround Inverness and provide endless entertainment. Kayaking and canoeing tours through the emerald green waters are very popular here. You will have the chance to see manatees and many species of birds along the Withlacoochee River. There is also the Florida Trail Association Trail nearby for those of us who don’t want to chance getting wet to enjoy the beautiful forests and wildlife. For those who like to fish, Inverness is also home to a few fly and regular fishing stores with guide services. Golfers and tennis players will also be happy with the areas facilities. Inverness itself is a quaint town with many antique shops, stores, and restaurants to explore. Every Monday there is a flea market with hundreds of vendors and everything you could imagine. There are also nearby museums and historical sites that give wonderful information about the area’s history. If you want a little more excitement, remember that the Tampa Bay area is only about an hour drive south. Here in Inverness you will be able to explore the beautiful Florida countryside and stay in a town that is not oriented to commercial tourism. Tampa hosts the nearest airport, Tampa International Airport (TPA, 65 miles). |
