Pine Island is a large island just west of Cape Coral in southwestern Florida. The western side of the island overlooks the Pine Island Sound, Captiva Island, and Cayo Costa. Within the sound there are many islands, parks and backwaters to explore. Boat and kayak rentals to explore these wonderful and secluded areas are available on the Pine Island. Some of the best shoreline and salt water fly fishing in the state can be found here among the estuaries and off of the local piers. Five communities are spread out along Pine Island. Bokeelia is on the northern end, Pineland is in the northwest, Pine Island Center is on the western shore in the middle of the isle, Saint James City is on the southern tip and Matlacha is on the eastern part of Pine Island and serves as a gateway to the mainland. Each of these towns provides a unique shopping and dining experience and has many activities to offer. If you are looking for a golf course you should head inland where the Cape Coral and Fort Myers area has many courses to challenge any golfer. The inland cities also provide a vibrant nightlife and many museums and historical buildings. Pine Island is the perfect place to enjoy a restful vacation. Fort Myers houses the closest airport, the Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW, 25miles). |
