Punta Gorda is located on the eastern side of the Charlotte Harbor, 30 miles north of Cape Coral, in southwest Florida. Being at the mouth of the Peace River where it enters the Charlotte Harbor, Punta Gorda thrives on the nearby waters. In fact, there are many homes and vacation cottages on canals that flow through Punta Gorda like streets. Anything you could think of that has to do with fun on, in or near the water can be found between Punta Gorda and its sister city, Port Charlotte. Charter fishing and boat rentals are available for those that want to try some deep sea fishing or maybe just cruise around the many islands and nature preservations in the harbor. Though the city lacks beaches it is easy to take a day trip to the Englewood area and spend a day on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Punta Gorda also has many golf courses and tennis courts available for public play. The Peace River and the many uninhabited islands on the river are the perfect place for a canoe or kayak trip. Punta Gorda is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a warm Florida vacation. Aside from the Charlotte County Airport (PGD) in Punta Gorda, the Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW, 37miles) in Fort Myers and the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ, 50miles) are the closest airports to the area.
