Shell Point is a small village on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in the beginnings of the Florida Panhandle and the end of the Big Bend, almost straight south from Tallahassee. Almost every single villa or cottage here on Shell Point is on the water, thanks to the canals on the point. A large public park and its beach make up about a quarter of the beach on the southern end of the point. Traveling inland from Shell Point brings you to some larger towns and the Apalachicola National Forest. This is one of the state’s largest forests and is perfect for a day drive or early morning wildlife viewing. There are also many hiking and canoeing trails for those who really want to get adventurous. Due north of Shell Point, between the point and Tallahassee, is Wakulla Springs, the world largest freshwater spring. Boat tours and hiking trails can be found at the springs. Further north, Tallahassee is a great place to look at Florida’s history and visit either a museum on the campus of Florida State University or one of the many historical houses in the area. Shell Point is in the perfect location to do all these activities and best of all, it is on the beach. The Tallahassee Regional Airport (TLH, 28miles) is the closest airport to Shell Point. |
