South Beach is located just south of Miami Beach on the barrier island just offshore of Miami, Florida. South Beach is known for its Art Deco District, bolstering nightlife, and expensive tastes. The Art Deco District is a must see if you are staying in South Beach. The buildings here were built back in the early to mid 1900’s and were considered ultramodern at the time. Now they serve as a defining attribute to South Beach. Guided tours of the district are available. Museums of art and history are plentiful in the South Beach area. The Bass Museum of Art and the Lowe Art Museum are two of the most popular. If you want to get out of the city environment for a little while then head to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on the southern end of Key Biscayne. Here you can visit the lighthouse, rent a kayak or bicycle, or just take a walk on the park’s trails. Another great way to escape is to rent a boat and head out on the water. Cruising or fishing around the Biscayne Bay is a great way to relax. There are many different shopping centers and plazas for you to explore around the South Beach area, just remember that prices may be higher here than what you are used to. With so much to do and see staying in South Beach is a perfect way to enjoy the greater Miami area. Miami International Airport (MIA, 9miles) is the closest airport to South Beach. |
