St. George Island is a barrier island, located about 10 miles south east from Apalachicola, Florida in the panhandle of the state. This beautiful island stretches horizontally across the ocean a couple miles out from the mainland. On the northern side of the island is the Apalachicola Bay and to the south is the Gulf of Mexico. The waters here are warm year round and the beaches are white and soft. The Apalachicola Bay provides nice calm waters for those looking to go out kayaking. The Gulf waters to the south are perfect for fishing, shelling on the beach, or just watching the wave sets crash into the shore. St. George Island State Park has one of the best beaches in the country. Apalachicola hosts the larger marinas in the area where you can get tours of the islands and purchase charter fishing trips. The Apalachicola National Forest is a great place to see the preserved habitats of many different species of wildlife. Canoe trail and mountain bike trail information for the forest may be found at the ranger’s station. This wonderful island has many seafront homes, cottages, and villas just waiting for your visit. |
