Venice is a beautiful little town on the southwest coast of Florida about 18 miles south of Sarasota. This community is right on the Gulf of Mexico and the mouth of the Myakka River. The mouth of the river provides a great place for marinas and boat owners to operate in calm waters before entering the Gulf. Various watercraft from jet skis to kayaks are available for rental in the area. The beaches here are some of the best for shelling in the state. Estuaries and preserved lands along the rivers create exciting places to view wildlife in its natural environment. Fishing along the Myakka River and off the shores of Venice couldn’t be better, and charter-fishing guides will take you out for a shot at the big one. There are many golf courses in the area ready to challenge your talents and traveling north to St. Armands Key puts you in the heart of some of the best shopping on the western coast of Florida. This short trip north also puts you close to Sarasota where there are many museums and attractions to explore, including the Ringling Museums. Altogether Venice, with its warm waters and vast beaches, is a wonderful place to vacation in Florida along the Gulf of Mexico. |
