Located less than 5 miles away from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), Estero is a beautiful town overlooking the Estero Bay, Mound Key Archaeological State Park and Estero Island. With mangrove tree forests, shell mounds and a rich Native American history Mound Key State Park has great trails for hiking but are only accessible by boat. Koreshan State Park is another great park to visit, especially if you like canoeing. The Estero Bay is an aquatic preserve inhabited by many species of birds, manatees, dolphins and much more. When you are ready to hit the beach all you have to do is cross the Estero Bay to Estero Island where you will find Fort Myers Beach on the northern end and Bonita Beach on the southern tip. Fort Myers Beach offers a more modest price to your beach visit than other hot tourist beaches in the area. If you happen to be in the area in November, check to see if the American Sandsculpting Festival, held at Fort Myers Beach, will be in town. Be sure to go to Lover’s Key State Park if you want to go shelling. Lynn Hall Memorial Park is a great spot for some pier fishing. If you are willing to travel a bit further Sanibel and Captiva Islands to the northwest offer hours of entertainment with their public beaches which offer canoeing, kayaking, hiking, bicycling and in-line skating. A short trip south from Estero along highway 41 will bring you to one of the best places to shop on the southwest mainland, Naples. Naples is the perfect place to window shop and enjoy a fine dining experience looking out over the Gulf while still being close to Estero. |
