Islamorada, “Sport Fishing Capital of the World,” is located in the Florida Keys about 25 miles west of Key Largo. This beautiful area is a mecca for people who love to fish. Bonefish, tarpon, marlin and sailfish can all be found in the waters surrounding Islamorada. There are many charter fishing companies and places that will rent equipment. For the young ones, consider taking them out to Robbie’s pier to see the tarpon feed or take a guided kayak trip. The Theater of the Sea, one of the first marine zoos, is also in town. Snorkeling and diving are also popular activities in the area. However, the area has more to do than look at fish. Long Key Recreation Area has many nature trails just waiting for you to explore. Islamorada’s beaches and waterfront restaurants are great places to watch the rich sunsets while relaxing after a long day of shopping and exploring the town. With everything the area has to offer, Islamorada is a great place to enjoy the Florida Keys. Marathon hosts the closest airport, The Florida Keys Marathon Airport (MTH, 30miles), but you may find the Miami International Airport (MIA, 70miles) easier to fly into.
