Just south of Cape Canaveral along the Space Coast is Cocoa Beach. Cocoa Beach is home to arguably the best surfing on the East Coast. Surfers come from all over the country to play in the waves offshore here. You can sit and watch these athletes maneuver in the water from the Cocoa Beach Pier. The pier was built in the 1960’s and has 842 feet of shopping, fishing, dining and of course surfing rentals and lessons. If you enjoy science and exploration then you will be extremely happy that Kennedy Space Center is just a few miles north of Cocoa Beach. Disney World and other Orlando attractions are only about an hour away. Caribbean-bound cruise ships set out from Port Canaveral, a man made port with wonderful seafood restaurants and countless marinas. There are wildlife preserves, national parks, and zoos within a half hour’s drive for those who wish to nature watch. Have a need for speed? Daytona International Speedway is less than 60 miles away. There you can park on the beach and spend the day walking around town. If you time your vacation just right you can visit Daytona during Biketoberfest in late October. Nearest airports are the Space Coast Regional Airport (TIX, 15miles), the Melbourne International Airport (MLB, 20miles) and the Orlando International Airport (MCO, 45miles).
