Home to the University of Florida Gators, Gainesville is a wonderful place to vacation. Gainesville is centrally located along the I-75 corridor which provides quick access to all of northern Florida. While here you should take time to visit the University of Florida campus and learn about the history of the school and its host city, and maybe even watch a sporting event or theater production. Gainesville also is home to many parks, nature trails, golf courses, unique shops and fine restaurants. Local museums such as the Butterfly Rainforest, the Florida Museum of Natural History and the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art provide hours of entertainment. For those who really want to get out and see the countryside, the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail is a 14 mile long abandoned railway that has been remodeled for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Along the trail you are bound to see many animals in their natural environment while passing through Paynes Prairie State Preserve. After a day enjoying the sites, enjoy shopping in the Oaks Mall or Butler Plaza. There is also a significant nightlife to be experienced while in town. Enjoy your vacation here in Gainesville home of the Gators. Lake City Municipal Airport (LCQ, 40miles) in Lake City is the closest airport while Jacksonville International Airport (JAX, 70miles) will probably have cheaper fares. |
