Longboat Key is home to many beachfront cottages and condos, and is located along the barrier islands that separate the Sarasota Bay from the Gulf of Mexico. Your rental site will be on your own private beach as there are no public access points on Longboat Key. The Sarasota Bay offers a wonderful setting to go canoeing, kayaking, swimming and snorkeling in calm warm waters. Charter fishing is available for those who want to get a close look at some of the marine life. Another option is to head just South of Longboat Key to St. Armands Key and the Mote Aquarium, where you can touch stingrays in the stingray pool and watch sharks feed in the shark tank. For history buffs, DeSoto National Memorial is just North of Longboat Key near Bradenton. This park recreates the time when Hernando de Soto and his army landed in the year 1539. Most golf courses and tennis courts on Longboat Key are private but the Sarasota area has plenty for you to enjoy. Be sure to check out some of the fabulous dining and shopping that can be done on and around the island. The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ, 8miles) is located just North of Sarasota and is the closest commercial airport to Longboat Key. Tampa International Airport (TPA, 50miles) is another option.
