New Port Richey is located on the Gulf of Mexico, about 35miles northwest of Tampa, Florida. Many of the homes near the coast here in New Port Richey are right on the water thanks to a large canal system on the western side of town. Because of the natural estuaries and islands along the shoreline there are few beaches in the area. Green Key, just a quick drive across the bayou, is the exception. The whole island is a park and has a nice beach located on its south side. While beaches here are scarce, exploring the area by water is a wonderful experience. Nearby James E. Grey Preserve, the Cotee River and the large bayous that surround New Port Richey are great places to explore by kayak and small watercraft. Larger boats can be taken out on the Gulf waters for spectacular fishing or perhaps to run up and down the coastline. Back in town the golf courses and other amenities, such as tennis courts and city parks, are great places to relax and enjoy the warm weather. And if you can’t find what you want to do here then head to the Tampa Bay area where you will find professional sports teams, large museums, abundant shopping and large theme parks, such as Busch Gardens. New Port Richey is in the perfect location to enjoy many activities and is far enough away from the big cities to feel relaxed and calm. The nearest airports to New Port Richey are the Tampa International Airport (TPA, 28miles) and the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (PIE, 28miles). |
