Satellite Beach is located, just north of Melbourne, on a long barrier strip that protects the eastern Florida mainland from the Atlantic Ocean. The western side of Satellite Beach overlooks the Banana and Indian Rivers. Canals on the Banana River provide many cottages and villas with waterfront access. Being surrounded by these large bodies of freshwater and ocean makes Satellite Beach a great place for many activities including some of the best fishing along the Space Coast. Watercraft rentals may be found in the area, as well as fishing gear. There are a few golf courses on this barrier island but the vast majority of the courses in the county are on the mainland. To the north of Satellite Beach are Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center, both of which are wonderful places to visit and explore. Just over 60 miles away inland from the beach is Orlando and its surrounding attractions such as Walt Disney World, Epcot, Sea World and Universal Studios. The wonderful location of Satellite Beach allows you to visit some of Florida’s largest tourist attractions without having to stay in the middle of them. Melbourne International Airport (MLB, 8miles) is the closest airport to Satellite Beach. However, Orlando International Airport (MCO, 62miles) may offer more flight times and carriers. |
